UWP charges 2010/2011 budget leads to more poverty, dependency and state control

UWP Team with newly appointed Leader of Opposition, Hector Spags John, in response to the 2010/2011 budget at a public Meeting in Lagoon, Roseau this Monday night 800pm, will show that this budget is taking Dominica down a Highway to more Poverty, dependency and State Control.

According to Opposition Leader, Spags John, “The budget fails to restore confidence in Dominica’s major production sectors, all of which are in serious crisis.

Agriculture has collapsed, leaving farmers confidence at all time low. Tourism, especially the stay over and the locally owned Hotel sectors are in serious decline.

The local private sector is under government attack.

Low Investor confidence in the Policies of the Skerrit Administration, is confirmed by a staggering 51% drop in foreign direct investment. Highest ever unemployment, now beyond 35% overall, whilst unemployment among youth 16 to 25 years is at an alarming 70%. Violent crime in the Country is now out of control, with the largest number of our youths ever, being killed violently. The latest killing of one of our young men being on that famous bye election day July 9th. The budget fails to address the serious crisis facing the country in these very critical areas. As such, this budget rushed through parliament, at reckless speed, is taking Dominicans down “ A Highway to more poverty, dependency, and State Control”. `
