Six community tourism groups from across Dominica will be recognized today for their participation in a specially organized community based tourism business development and marketing initiative.
The programme which forms part of the European Union and the Government of Dominica funded two year SFA 2006 Tourism Sector Development Programme was designed to provide a broad range of training and capacity building to project leaders across six community based tourism projects especially in the area of business development skills.
The programme also delivered support to these groups in the area of tourism marketing with the main aim of improving their overall competitiveness and enhancing their tourism products offerings.
The targeted community organizations under this programme were drawn from Portsmouth Community Association, the Mero Enhancement Committee, the Layou Improvement Committee, Bellevue Chopin Organic Farmers Group, the Wotton Waven Development Committee and the Giraudel/Eggleston Flower Growers Group.
The participants will officially be presented with certificate of participation in the training programme.
All six projects will also receive new brochures developed for their respective projects as well as computers to support on-going marketing and institutional development for their various projects.
During today’s ceremony, new websites for each project will be officially launched facilitating a new and more innovative marketing tool for these community based tourism projects to conduct business.
