Acting Minister of Agriculture Dr. Colin McIntyre says diversification is a critical factor in the restoration of the banana industry.
Dr. McIntyre says with the level of investments now being placed in the agricultural sector it is now the opportune time to establish a productive industry.
He was addressing the 7th Annual General Meeting of the Dominica Banana Producers Limited (DBPL) on Tuesday.
Dr. McIntyre says many challenges are being faced in the diversification process and restoration of the banana industry.
Meantime Chairman of the DBPL Luke Prevost says diversification of the business will continue to be a major focus for the organization, both in terms of its market and it revenue mix.
Several persons involved in the agricultural sector were awarded including top banana producer, Lennox Honore and top plantain producer Shirley Durand. Franky Bellot top the spot for the production of dasheen.
