Gerard Austrie, awarded President Medal of Excellence as top graduate in MWSU School of Business Adminstration
Three Dominican students earned degrees at Midwestern State University’s May commencement ceremonies. All three achieved distinctions.
Alda Bedminister earned a master of business administration. She previously earned a bachelor of business administration.
Wayne Toulon earned a master of business administration. The former banker also previously earned a bachelor of business administration. Both Toulon and Bedminister serve on the advisory board for the Caribbean Recruitment Program.
However, the day belonged to another Dominican student. Gerard Austrie was awarded President’s Medal of Excellence as the top graduate in the Dilliard College of Business Administration. Austrie, the third in his family to earn a degree at Midwestern also achieved Summa Cum Laude honors and a bachelor of business administration in accounting. He was one of only six graduates among the over 700 who earned the President’s Medal.
Numerous parents and well wishers traveled from Dominica to attend the ceremony including many alumni. Red Hot Flames of Antigua performed a marathon five hour concert at the annual graduation concert and was wildly cheered by over 400 Caribbean students and guests. Midwestern has graduated over 650 Caribbean students in the past 15 years
including 150 Dominicans.
Twenty new students from Dominica have been accepted to Midwestern State University for August, and will be part of almost 1000 recruits from the Caribbean in the history of the fifteen year old program.
