
Education Projects are benefiting from the Assistance
The Dominica Social Investment Fund (DSIF) has just provided an additional half a million dollars to ten (10) micro projects.
The projects which will benefit are the Fond St. Jean Fisheries Cooperative and the Dominica Council of Women for capacity building to include procurement of Equipment and material. The Fond St. Jean Fisheries Cooperative will receive just over EC$65,000.00 while the Dominica Council of Women will receive about EC$66,000.00
The Group, La Cour Des Art which will focus on Youth Action for HIV and AIDS Reduction will receive EC$60,000.00, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Soufriere/Scotts Head gets an additional EC$12,000.00 for its Resource Center and the Indigenous Women of Gaullete River will receive EC$46,000.00 for the further development of straw products.
Three village councils will also benefit from the half a million dollar injection of funds from DSIF. They are the Clifton/Capuchin village council which will receive EC$44,000.00 for the procurement of equipment and material for skills development, the Bellevue Chopin Village Council EC$80,000.00 for the renovation of the School building and procurement of Computer Equipment and the Tete Morne Village Council EC$61,000.00 for the procurement of equipment and furniture for its resource centre and skills training programme.
The Sunrise Women’s Group of Grand Fond and the St. Jerome Ministry for Senior Citizens are the two final groups to benefit. The St. Jerome’s Ministry will use its EC$45,000.00 to enhance its facility for seniors and Sunrise Women Group will spend EC$57,000.00 on Computer Equipment and other equipment to develop skills among women of Grand Fond.
The Dominica Social Investment Fund (DSIF) is a programme of the Government of Dominica funded by the European Union (EU). It seeks to assist in the creation of an environment conducive to fostering a culture of self-reliance and well-being of vulnerable groups and poor communities in Dominica. DSIF focuses on Women, Youth and Children, the Carib Community, Older Persons, Persons with Mental and Physical Disabilities and Non-government Organizations (NGO’s) and Community Based Organizations (CBO’s) in Communities identified as areas with high levels of poverty based on the country poverty assessment of 2002.
