Public Utilities Minsiter Savarin says water problem in Marigot is not an isolated case
Dominica’s Public Utilities Minister has told residents of Marigot that the water problem they are currently facing is not an isolated case.
The Honourable Charles Savarin said technical problems are preventing the adequate supply of water in a number of communities in and around Dominica.
“We know in Marigot there is a problem. It is not in Marigot alone that there is a water problem. If anyone gives you the impression that no one is interested in solving your problem because you did not vote for the government, that is not true,” he said.
Savarin said there is a water problem in Roseau, Campbell, Warner, Mero and a number of other communities in and around Dominica.
“There are problems in the supply of water because in many cases, the original installation is over 50-60 years old,” he added.
He said funding has been allocated to provide an adequate water supply in the areas of Marigot being affected.
“It would cost some M$1.8 to provide an adequate supply in the Monkey Hill area. That funding has been sought and approved by the BNTF,” he said.
He said DOWASCO has given the indication that the consultancy to undertake that project is expected to get underway this week.
