Dominicans are being told that it is highly unlikely that last week Tuesday’s earthquake in Haiti could trigger a reaction in Dominica.
Geologist at the office of Disaster Management Tessa Deroche’ said Dominicans should not panic.
“It doesn’t exactly happen like that. Not because it happened in Haiti it’s going to happen to us. I know Haiti is close to home but we haven’t experienced anything like this in recent history except for in 2004 and it wasn’t that bad,” she said.
Deroche said Haiti suffered massive destruction because of its poor building codes.
“One of the things we need to understand is that Haiti has poor building codes and Dominica’s structure is much stronger,” she said.
The Geologist said Dominicans should not just “stop living” because of the Haiti’s earthquake.
“We shouldn’t get scared and think that it’s going to happen to us today or tomorrow,” she concluded.
Deroche was speaking with the Nations Station-DBS Radio
