Venezuela will have to wait a bit longer before it could become a member of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).

The South American Nation has expressed interest in becoming a member of the OECS and has indicated its willingness to be a committed partner in the Regional process.

However, Director General of the OECS Dr. Len Ishmael says that while the interest by the South American country is welcoming, the Initial purpose of the OECS was for the smaller countries of the region to have a stronger voice in the Caribbean region.

Dr. Ishmael, who failed to confirm whether membership would be granted or that the sub-regional heads were likely to view the request favorably, said that the Value of Venezuela to Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean has to be reviewed before a final decision could be made.
