With the campaign “1000 cities-1000 lives”, events are being organized around the world calling on cities open up the streets for health activities. Stories of urban health champions will be gathered to illustrate what people are doing to improve health in their cities.

Health Minister Julius Timothy said the World Health Day 2010 theme is in keeping with his Ministry’s focus on preventing and managing chronic non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, cancer and accidents and injury.

“It is expected that beyond that day there will be a sustained commitment to incorporate health in urban public policy. It’s therefore imperative that we take action now to ensure that our growing cities are healthy cities” he said..
