Newly sworn in Minster of Health, Julius Timothy believes that he is the right man for the job.
Timothy who controlled the Economic Affairs Ministry was sworn in as the country’s Health Minister on Monday
Timothy told Dominica Central that the health sector in Dominica needs proper management and direction, attributes which he feels he can give to the sector.
The newly appointed health minister said that one needs not be a doctor to run a health sector or facility “It’s all about management”.
“The problem in health now is management. We are hoping to bring back Dominica to a level of great health care service for both patients and the service providers like doctors and nurses,” he said.
Timothy said “salary is not [the only] motivation.” He said by breaking what have become norms, like patients waiting several hours for assistance, more and better quality service would be given.
Timothy is hoping to reinvigorate and restore again the once prestigious and enviable Primary Health Care Sector in Dominica. This he reiterated will only be achievable with proper management.
In addition to the primary health care system, Timothy will also be concerned with the landfill which will come under his portfolio. Timothy is looking to clean up the environment and ensure a safer and less stench-filled area.
