Dominica Cancer Society Continues Breast Health Campaign

DCS continues beast health campaign

The Dominica Cancer Society says its satisfied with the public’s response to its Breast Health Campaign and is continuing to host a series of health clinics and other activities to raise awareness about the issue.

A number of Men Only Health Clinics are scheduled for a number of villages throughout the Grandbay Health District in March and April. On the 24th and 27th of March, the clinic moves to Tete Morne and Grandbay Health Centers respectively while on April 10th, 17th and 24th, the clinic will move to Petite Savanne, Pichelin and Bagatelle Health Centers.

April will be observed as “Cancer Awareness Month” in the Grandbay Health District. The official launch of the month of activities will be held on April 3rd 2010 to be followed by a health march through the village of Grandbay later that afternoon at 4;00pm.

Additionally DCS Inc is hoping to establish Breast Cancer Support Groups in all seven Health Districts in Dominica. Cancer survivors are-being encouraged to join the group and share their stories with the hope that they will inspire and help someone. One group, the Roseau Breast Cancer Support Group meets at the Roseau Health Center.

As part of activities to promote a better understanding and management of cancer, Peter Dewhurst, a cancer survivor, has been seeking to engage persons living with prostate cancer to join him to promote early detection and free testing.
