Dominican national Justus Victor, an Operational Maintenance Field Engineer with Digicel, who hails from the village of Cottage, will leave for Washington D.C on April 10, 2010 under the International Visitor Leadership Program run by the United States Department of State.
Mr. Justus will join 104 other participants from around the world in examining volunteerism in the United States. They will be looking at the impact of volunteerism in the U.S. and how volunteers, particularly young people, are inspired to promote a culture of service and civic responsibility. The program runs from April 12 – 30, 2010.
In addition to Washington D.C., the participants will travel to Houston, Texas; Indianapolis, Indiana; Kansas City, Kansas; and Salt Lake City, Utah.
On Friday March 12th Victor paid a courtesy call on Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the United States of America to Barbados and Eastern Caribbean Dr. Brent Hardt.
During the visit Chargé Hardt congratulated him on being chosen for the program and expressed the hope that the knowledge and experience he gained in the U.S. would help with the further development of Dominica and the rest of the Eastern Caribbean. Victor expressed his gratitude to the Chargé and his staff for nominating him and making his trip possible.
The International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) seeks to build understanding between the United States and people of other countries through carefully designed visits that reflects the visitor’s professional interests and supports the foreign policy goals of the United States Department of State.
Over the years, hundreds of former participants of the IVLP have risen to important positions in their countries. Among the alumni are over two hundred current and former heads of Government or Chiefs of State. In this region, over 200 persons from Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and St. Kitts and Nevis.
