As final preparations are being made to hold a state funeral for the late Former President of Dominica and Speaker of the House of Assembly Crispin Sorhaindo later today, a number of prominent individuals have been remembering his contribution to Dominica.

Sorhaindo died at his home last week, at the age of 78, following a battle with cancer.

Ambassador Charles Maynard said he was a perfect example of what a public servant should be.

“He came across as one of the most devoted public servants I have ever met…he served and he served well in Dominica. What is interesting for me is that in those days in the 60’s the Colonial Office still under Britain determined where they would have sent a young financial officer who was going to become financial secretary for his internship. They selected Dominica because they knew that under Crispin Sorhaindo he would become a top class finance persons. Years later when I met the gentleman he never forgot and stopped talking about his attachment in Dominica,” he said.

Meantime Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit remembered the late Crispin Sorhaindo as someone who contributed significantly to Dominica’s development.

“He served Dominica and the Caribbean with great distinction and of course Dominica has lost a great son of the soil. He is a very distinguished gentleman who had Dominica at heart and contributed greatly to the country’s economic development. He had his roots in my constituency also and it is a great and sad loss for our community,” Skerrit said.
