Culture Minister Laureen Bannis Roberts says the twin communities of Egleston and Giraudel are well placed to host Heritage Day activities.

She was speaking at a Heritage Day ceremony in Giraudel/Egleston on Sunday; Bannis-Roberts said she is happy that these communities were selected this year to host the annual event.

“These two communities are the flower garden of Dominica and contribute greatly to the title Nature Island of the Caribbean. However we must not believe that only plants and flowers are grown in Giraudel. Despite the difficulty with the water supply in the past, and the hilly terrain, these communities have been able to supply the local market with a regularly supply of fruits, vegetables and ground provisions,” she said.

The community development minister said the people of Giraudel have among other things beautified Dominica with their flowers and nourished the people with good wholesome produce.

Meantime the 2009 Cultural Elder has been described as an iconic cultural figure in the communities of Giraudel and Egleston.

82 year old Antony Harve was recognized at Heritage Day on Sunday for his constribution to agriculture.
