Prevost says Lime has streched the lead in corporate social responsibility

Through Creole in the Park, and The Go Green Initiative, LIME has Stretched It’s Lead in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

The European Commission defines Corporate Social Responsibility as “A concept whereby companies decide voluntarily to contribute to a better society and a cleaner environment. A concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and in their interaction with their stakeholders on a voluntary basis.”

The focus of the Company becomes one of, “Growing from Good to Great rather than from Big to Bigger; of being the best at what they do, of creating a Great place to work, providing top class customer service and making a difference to their local community.”

They may have changed their name from Cable and Wireless, to LIME, but they have not changed their Corporate Culture. Through Creole in the Park, Dive Fest, and The Go Green Initiative, LIME Leads in Corporate Social Responsibility(CSR).

I can recall, in 1965, when as a bright young student, in sixth form at St. Mary’s Academy , Cable and Wireless came headhunting for young graduating students, to train, to man Dominica’s new telephone system, which they were about to install. I was among the five young Dominicans chosen to attend the Cable and Wireless training School in Barbados. Whilst I moved on to a different Career, I was pleased to see my other colleagues grow at Cable and Wireless, from junior technicians, to becoming World Class Telecoms Engineers.

To this day, LIME continues the culture of developing local staff, from junior clerks, to top Managers. The present Manager, Mr Jeffrey Baptiste, is testimony. We congratulate him, for doing a great job.

I commend LIME for this.

When, under my stewardship as Minister of Tourism, The World Creole Music Festival was established in 1997, my hope was, that the Festival would be the nurturing ground for our young Dominican Artists. Lime because of its strong CSR, through Creole in the Park, is making the dreams of dozens of young Dominican musicians come true.

But Lime has gone beyond the realm of developing young Artists, to partnering with our food vendors and other young entrepreneurs. Today Creole in the Park has made the World Creole Music Festival almost like Disney World. A festival for the entire Family.

GO GREEN INITIATIVE

But just as important, through Creole in the Park, LIME has created a holistic synergy between Cultural Heritage and Natural heritage, where, not only is Creole in the Park contributing to the enhancement and sustainability of our Beautiful Botanic Gardens, but through its Go Green initiative Lime is once again taking the lead, to partner with Community based organizations, to help rebuild that Clean and Green Dominica, which all of us, as Dominican are eagerly awaiting.

We must truly compliment Lime, and hold it up as a model in CSR, which other Global, Caribbean, and Local Corporations should emulate. Creole in the Park, and Go Green, are in a class by themselves.

Lime we compliment you for your leadership in Corporate Social Responsibility. You are a shinning example. May you, our artists, our vendors and all the other partners have a successful Creole in the Park. And may all of us here at home, as well as all our visitors and returning Dominicans have a peaceful and enjoyable Creole in Park , and World Creole Music Festival.

Happy Independence to all.
