As leader of the United Workers Party, and Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Dominica, I extend congratulations to the Unity and Progress for a Better Dominica Inc. on their holding of another very successful Dominica International Conference; this time right here on our Dominican soil, Saturday 15th August 2009, under the theme: “Our Future: Bridging the gap between Dominicans here and abroad.”

As with the previous conference, this was not a partisan call, but rather, a call for Unity. The Conference brought together leaders from virtually all Political Parties in Dominica, along with other Dominicans at home and abroad, to deliberate on the Future of our Nature Island, Dominica.  Present were the leaders of the United Workers Party, the Freedom Party, the PDM, Real Labor and the Peoples Progressive Party. The only political leader who refused to attend, was the leader of the Dominica Labour Party, Mr Roosevelt Skerrit, although he was invited.

There Will be No Turning Back

Dominicans at home and abroad, are determined to move forward with Unity of Purpose. This call for Unity of Purpose, was echoed repeatedly, throughout the Conference, by speaker after speaker at home and abroad.

This Conference, has once more demonstrated, that Mr. Skerrit absenting himself, will not stop that Oneness of Purpose, that Unity of Spirit, with which Dominicans at home and abroad, are marching towards a better, cleaner and greener, Dominica.  Our people are not turning back.

The United Workers Party, as it celebrates its 21st Anniversary, welcomes this resounding call by our Dominicans overseas, for unity of all Dominicans, for good governance and development.  This call highlights the need for a clean up; given the Dominica Government’s rapid decline into corruption, secrecy, unexplainable wealth accumulation by government Ministers, appointment of questionable characters to Diplomatic positions and shady deals regarding Dominica’s sovereignty.

This call for the unity of all honest, committed and patriotic sons and daughters of Dominica, to save our beloved and God blessed Country, has been the clarion call of the United Workers Party during its 21 years, from its first Great Londonderry Rally in 1988, to its resounding 21st Anniversary Peoples rally in  Laplaine on August 9th 2009.  It has never been more urgent.

United Workers Party is committed to clean up Government. To Green our Economy.  And to unify our people, at home and abroad.

Hon. Ron Green
