Oliver St.John, DFP Candidate for the Roseau South Constituency
With les than twenty-four hours to go before the close of Nomination Day, the Dominica Freedom Party (DFP) presented two more of its candidates slated to contest the December 18th polls, at a rally in Newtown last night.
Harian Henry for the Grandbay constituency and Nettisha Walsh for the Salisbury/ Coulibistrie/Morne Rachette Constituency were the new candidates presented. At twenty-one, Ms.Walsh is the youngest of any of the candidates contesting the general elections
Barring any eleventh-hour withdrawal, last night’s presentations meant that a total of eleven persons will contest the general elections on a DFP ticket. However, there could still be one or two last minute additions today before the 4:00pm Nomination Day deadline. A source close to the party says the DFP is still talking to a few persons.
The eleven candidates competing on the DFP ticket include party leader Judith Pestaina (Roseau Central), Henry ‘Babs’ Dyer (Roseau North), Oliver St. John (Roseau South), Micahel astaphan (Roseau Valley), Benjamin ‘Benji’ Pascal (Grandfond), Felita Paul (Soufriere), Herbert ‘Sabie’ Sabroache (Colihaut), Johnson ‘Boso’ Boston (Mahaut), Murphy Wallace (portsmouth), Nettisha Walsh (Salisbury/Coulibistrie/Morne Rachette) and Harian Henry (Grandbay).
Oliver St.John, the DFP candidate for the Roseau South Constituency was also officially launched at last night’s event. St.John will do battle with the United Workers Party’s Bobby Frederick and the incumbent MP, the Dominica Labour Party’s Ambrose George.
George is widely favoured to win this three-way race but St.John, a man of the community, says not so easily. In fact, he promised victory at the polls. “I am sure by the grace of God I am going to be elected; I am very confident about that” he said.
St.John conceded that George might be considered a good man, “but as a politician and parliamentary representative he has become a complete and total liability and failure.”
The DFP hopeful added and urged the constituents of Newtown and Roseau South that since the Labour Mp “does not fit the bill, come December 17th we are going to vote him out.”
