Skerrit says the DLP is best choice for Dominica at this time
Skerrit said if the United Workers Party is elected to office the country would be held hostage on Friday night as they meet to agree upon a leader.
“Can you imagine the type of horse trading that would go on? I shudder to think the type of Cabinet that would eventually emerge from such confusion. That is why you must take nothing for granted over the next 36 hours. Not only do we want you to go out early and vote for the Labour Party, we also want you to canvass your husband, wife, family, friend, colleague at work and any other registered voter you know of the seriousness of this election and the need for them to put country above all other considerations when going into that polling booth on Friday,” Skerrit added.
According to him, still too many Dominicans are seeing this election as a colour parade, where their color is assigned, and etched in stone.
He said this election is not simply about voting for a colour or a symbol…it must also be about voting for a vision and a program. It must also be about voting for a team of candidates and a leader.
“In every respect, on every count, using any yardstick…the Dominica Labour Party is by far the better choice for Dominica at this time. That is why I want you to join in rallying support for the Labour Party over the next 36 hours. Do not leave any registered voter at home when you are going to vote. Take them along with you and counsel them about what this election is all about. Speak to your parents and point out to them that the reasons for voting UWP 15 years ago, no longer exist,” the DLP leader said.
He said the reasons for voting UWP five years ago, no longer exist. Five years ago the leadership of the UWP included Julius Timothy, Earl Williams, Peter Carbon and the like.
“Today, none of those former stalwarts is among the leadership of this campaign. None of them would be in a government of the UWP. What you have tonight are the likes of Bernard Wiltshire, who is on record as saying the tenure of the former UWP administration was characterized by greed,” he said.
He said he is satisfied that the vast majority of voters in Dominica are familiar with and impressed by our record of achievement and our plan for going forward.
“Our manifesto and subsequently our 100 Plan have been widely circulated. You have had the chance to read and digest what it is we are offering. You have had a chance to quiz us on aspects you do not understand. The United Workers Party did not give you that opportunity. They told persons without computers and who are not computer literate to go on the internet and read the manifesto. The way Ron Green said that suggests to me that he himself is not familiar with the computer, because you do not simply turn on the computer and click on the document. You have to be given a website and up to now the country has not been told what that website is,” he asserted.
He told those present that if there is no party with a better track record of performance in this campaign, then vote for the Dominica Labour Party.
And, If there is no party with a better vision and plan in this campaign for taking Dominica forward, then vote for the Dominica Labour Party.
He concluded that if there is no more competent leadership elsewhere in this campaign, then again vote for the Dominica Labour Party.
