PM Skerrit secure landslide victory at polls

The Dominica Labour party (DLP) has been given the mandate to govern this county for the third consecutive team

The DLP claimed 18 of the 21 constituencies contested at Friday’s general elections.

The opposition United Workers Party (UWP) secured 3 seats whilst the once mighty Dominica Freedom Party (DFP)failed in its attempt to capture one seat.

There were also a number of new comers who won their seats for the DLP. They include Ivor Stevenson who won the Morne Jaune Riviere Cyrique constituency against the UWP’s representative Abraham Brown who won that seat in 2005.

Johnson Drigo another new face on the political scene won the Castle Bruce constituency over the UWP’s representative Bernard Wiltshire and Independent candidate Jacequeline Laurent Theodore.

Ronald Toulon retained the Colihaut constituency for the DLP over the Dominica Freedom Partys’ Herbert Sabroache.

Wife of former Prime Minister Pierre Charles, Justina Charles won the Grandbay constituency over Harian Martin Henry of the DFP and Leanthia Pacquette Lewis of the UWP. Charles was also a new comer to the political race.

The St Joseph constituency was also won by new comer Kelver Darroux who won over the UWP’s Henry John Abraham, Marcella Boatswain of the DPP, and Roland Mitchel of the Peoples Democratic Movement.

Kenneth Darroux of the DLP is another new comer who won over Independent candidate Sam Raphael in the Petite Savanne constituency.

Ashton Graneau ensured the Slybia constituency remained with the DLP after taking over from his younger brother Kelly Graneau who decided that his political career has come to an end. For the second consecutive team, UWP Senator Claudius Sanford was defeated at the polls.

And Sam Martin secured the Soufriere seat for the DLP over Felita Paul Thomas of the DFP and Glen Etienne of the UWP.

Rayburn John Blackmore of the DLP maintained dominance of the Mahaut constituency over DFP’s Johnson Boston and the UWP’s Ronnnie Isidore.

Former Prime Minister Edison James of the UWP won over the DLP’s Dayton Baptiste in the Marigot constituency.

The Paix Bouche constituency was won by the incumbent Matthew Walter of the DLP over the UWP’s John Bruno.

The Portsmouth constituency remained with the Dominica Labour Party with Ian Douglas beating Julian Stephen Brewster of the People’s Democratic Movement, and independent candidates Errol Hill and Albert Cecil Severin and the DFP’s Murphy Wallace.

UWP’s Norris Prevost regained the Roseau Central seat over the DLP’s Alvin Bernard, the DPP”S Leoonard Pappy Baptiste and leader of the DFP Judith Pestaina.

Former UWP candidate for the Roseau North constituency Julius Timothy won that seat on a DLP ticket over Daniel Lugay of  the UWP, Henry Babs Dyer of the DFP and Michael Wright of the DPP.

Ambrose George emerged victorious in the Roseau South constituency over the DFP’s Oliver St. John and the UWP”S Bobby Frederick.

After her second term contesting that seat, Gloria Marilyn Shilling ford of the DLP won the Wesley over Ezekiel Bazil of the UWP.

The Roseau Valley was captured by the DLP’s John Colin McIntyre who won over the UWP’s Norris Charles and the DFP’s Michael Anthony Astaphan.

The UWP maintained dominance with Hector John in the Salisbury constituency over the DLP’s Julien Royer and the DFP’s Nettisha Walsh.

Leader of the DLP Roosevelt Skerrit maintained political dominance of the Veille Case constituency over the UWP’s Maynard Joseph.

The cottage constituency was reclaimed by Reginald victor Austrie of the DLP over William Emmanuel Riviere of the People Democratic Movement.
