Felix Gregoire, Secretary to the Cabinet

Cabinet Secretary, Felix Gregoire, has refuted claims that the government has sacked its Press Secretary, Sean Douglas.

Gregoire says, by refusing to sign his 2009/2010 employment contract, Douglas has fired the job.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, Douglas whose last signed contract expired  in January 25, 2009 was issued with a new contract for the period January 25, 2009 to January 25, 2010 based on his expression of interest in continuing in the government’s employ as Press Secretary.  Douglas however “never signed that contract and continued to work as the Government Press Secretary under the same terms and conditions as approved by the Cabinet.”

Douglas, said Gregoire, was issued with an ultimatum to sign the said contract no later than June 30, 2010 which he refused to sign.

“So in any sense Mr. Douglas was not fired by the government.  In my estimation Mr. Douglas fired the job in not signing the agreement which was prepared on his behalf” Gregoire said.

Douglas was issued his walking papers on July 12, 2010 bu the termination of his employment will take effect on August 13, 2010.
