Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit Sworn in as Prime Minister of Dominica Moments ago

Roosevelt Skerrit, Leader of the Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has been sworn in as the new Prime Minster of Dominica.  Prime Minister Skerrit took the oath earlier today at the President’s Office in Morne Bruce

Prime Minister Skerrit and the DLP were swept into government on a landslide victory claiming eighteen (18) of the twenty-one (21) constituencies in the December 18 general elections.  The results granted the DLP government a two thirds majority in the Dominica Parliament.

Skerrit had told a victory rally on Friday that he would have named his new cabinet on Monday however in his first press conference following his swearing in, the newly appointed third term Prime Minister told the press that he was giving the parliamentarians a break until the new year.  He howver did confirm that he would soon be naming his cabinet

Prime Minsiter Skerrit said that he had not heard from the United Workers Party (UWP) Leader Ron Green who lost the Laplaine seat in a critical recount on Saturday or any member of the UWP conceding defeat. 

There is mounting concern however that the opposition will challenge the results of the elections in a number of constituencies, charging tht the DLP’s election victory has been purchased “lock, stock and barrel.”The Prime Mintier however argued that any such challenge would be futile since the margin of victory in many of the constituencies are to great to hint of any iligality
