Macintyre Douglas, brother to Adenauer Douglas, executive member of the newly formed ‘Real labour Party’ has publicly disassociated himself with the party and has reconfirmed his support for the Dominica Labour Party (DLP).

Last week, Adenauer announced the formation of the ‘Real Labour Party’ and its intention to contest the 2010 general elections. He said that the move became necessary because the present DLP government had deviated from the visions and concepts of the Labour Party.

Since then the Douglas clan has been under pressure to declare one way or the other. In a press release issued yesterday, Macintyre admitted to having been hounded with questions from friends and acquaintances all over Dominica about his possible involvement with the new party. “In consequence” he said, “I feel it necessary to clarify my position, and totally dissociate myself publicly from the new “Real Labour Party.”

In renewing his pledge to the DLP Macintyer affirmed “I continue to be a member of and strongly support the Dominica Labour Party, for which two of my elder brothers, Mike and Rosie gave their all to help build up and bring back from the political wilderness to the corridors of power.”

Mr. Douglas conceded to “the occasional mishap [common to] most durable organizations, but insisted that contrary to the views of some that the DLP had lost its way, “the Dominica Laboour Party remains a very potent and effective vehicle for the social and economic development of our beloved country over the next decade and beyond.”

Come on, this new labour party thing is a real joke. How far do those executive members think they will take this? If you are a true party supporter, sooner or later you are gonna come to your senses or hard-lined members will let you come to your senses by force. The promise of X & Y does help sway ones decesion too.

It would be interesting to see a showdown between Adenauer and Ian Douglas in Portsmouth. While Portsmouth belongs to the Douglas’s(not labour) as long as they shall live (unless portsmouth proves me wrong), we are beginning to witness the genesis of a fractured and weakening political dynasty. If the other political parties can really strategize and field a serious candidate, who knows what can happen in the 2010 election? For now though, Ian is the front runner. My money is on the Red Army.
