Education Minister, the Hon. Peter St.Jean has told the 10th Biennial Conference of the Dominica Association of Teachers that the government is putting the necessary mechanism in place to ensure that Dominican teachers are upgraded and refreshed on a continuous basis.
St.Jean assured the teachers that their training and upgrade “has been and continues to be the focus of the Ministry of Education.”
He explained that the government had taken the decision to reduce the differentiation and disparity between graduate teachers at both the primary and secondary levels.
“In March of this year we took the bold decision of ensuring that there is no differentiation between the graduate teacher at the primary level and the graduate teacher at the secondary level. The government of Dominica has put in place structures and mechanism to ensure the appointment of 50 graduate teachers at the primary and secondary levels and 94 qualified teacher positions have been created to ensure that not only our teachers receive a better pay but that they can be more professional as per their upgrading” he said.
The Minister also informed teachers that the government had also forwarded a recommendation to the Public Service Commission to facilitate the appointment of 16 qualified and graduate teachers.
