Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says government will deliver on promises made during campaigns prior to the December 18th general elections.

One of these promises included assisting the unemployed in Dominica by establishing an unemployment agency within the first 100 days in office.

The Prime Minister told a public meeting with the private sector recently that the new employment agency will pay a stipend up to 6 months to persons who are unable to find employment.

“The establishment of an employment agency to help persons find employment, to provide an allowance for persons who for the last 3 months have been unable to find a job and this allowance will be paid for a period of six months and in the process guide job seekers in acquiring skills demanded by the job market,” Skerrit said.

But Chairman of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce Jenny Astaphan says the association is curious as to the strategy of execution of the unemployment allowance.

Meantime Astaphan is also encouraging government to be more efficient in it operations.
