PM Skerrit defends public support programme at town hall meeting in Roseau

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit has told residents of Roseau that his government will continue to assist the Dominican people irrespective of opposition from the United Workers Party.

Prime Minister Skerrit says the opposition has called its assistance handouts and red clinics.

But he told a town hall meeting in Roseau on Wednesday night that he is not ashamed.

“The more they criticize us, is the more we will help you in Dominica. We want to ensure that every Dominican will have access to secondary school on the island irrespective of who you are and who you parents are. We will also give you resources to help your children. When they talk about handouts, they must remember that in America and England they have food stamps. So why can’t we have it in Dominica,” he said.

In 2007, Prime Minister Skerrit launched a programme that allows him to make timely and speedy intervention to individuals, groups and organizations that directly request public support.

I think what the government doing is fine. But they should also teach a man to fish instead of giving him a fish everytime he is hungry

I hear you can just go financial center on Wednesday and say you need groceries and you getting 200 to go and shop? I also heard one woman can go three times dressed differently and get assistance? Well Well Well….PM Skerrit must be superman
