Prime Minister of Dominica and Chairman of the OECS, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit

Dominica’s Prime Minister, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit left the State yesterday for The Bahamas to attend the Nineteenth(19) Inter-Sessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the CARICOM Community,(CARICOM).

Prior to the CARICOM Inter-Sessional Meeting on March 7 and 8, 2008, Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit, who is also the Minister for Finance, will attend a meeting of the Council of Finance and Planning (COFAP).

The major issues to be discussed by the CARICOM Heads include the rising cost of living, security issues and the status of external trade negotiations including the establishment of an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the European Commission.

There will be presentations by Lead Heads of Government on: Human Resource Development, Health and HIV/AIDS; Matters related to the CARICOM Single Market and Economy(CSME); Free Movement of Skilled Nationals and Facilitation of Travel; Agriculture; Tourism; Crime and Security and Developments related to Youth and Culture.

Also taking place in The Bahamas will be a meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development (COTED), a meeting which will be attended by Minister for Trade, Dr the Hon. John Colin McIntyre.

The Dominican leader is accompanied on his visit to the Bahamas by the Minister for Trade, the Hon. Dr Colin McIntyre, Parliamentary Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister, Senator the Hon. Petter St. Jean, Financial Secretary, Mrs. Rosamund Edwards and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Steve Ferrol.

In the absence of the Honourable Roosevelt Skerrit from the State, Honourable Ambrose George is acting as Prime Minister.
