Hundreds of Dominicans and worshipers braved the inclement weather and gathered at the Newtown Savannah last night to celebrate with worship and prayers, the 5th anniversary of the dedication of Dominica to God. The thanksgiving service, organized by the Dominica Association of Evangelical Churches (DAEC), was held under the theme “positioning Dominica for divine transformation.”

A prayer concert formed the highlight of the night. Several pastors and church leaders including Reverend Calvin Greenaway of the Methodist Church and Pastor Colin Bacchus of the Seventh Day Adventist Church offered prayers to God on behalf of the nation. Petitions were made for national unity, economic recovery and development, a free and fair 2009 election, youth and families and national spiritual revival. Ministers also prayed against the spread of crimes and violence, the spirit of incest and sodomy, and the impact of natural disasters and the fallout from the current global financial crisis among other things.

President of the DAEC and Bishop of the Pentecostal churches of the West Indies Pastor Bill Michael Daniel, reminded worshipers that Dominica’s current dispensation of blessings is directly attributable to its dedication to the Lord. “We have never doubted that the decision to dedicate Dominica was God driven, God ordained and God sanctioned. It was not long after that, the day of April 8th 2004, that waves upon waves of God’s blessings began pounding the shores of Dominica. The tides began changing. This is not a fairy tale. Every honest thinking Dominica can attest to this change.”

Among the scores of dignitaries and invited guests joining hands and prayers with the throngs of worshipers were Prime Minister the Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit and the Leader of the Opposition the Hon. Ronald Green.

Earlier in the week, the Government of Dominica had declared Wednesday 8th April 2009 as a National Day of Prayer in recognition of the fifth anniversary of the Dedication.

Dominica was officially dedicated to the Lord on April 8th 2009 at an ecumenical service at the Botanic Gardens in Roseau under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Nicholas J. O. Liverpool, President of Dominica and the Honorable Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister.

We need to continually dedicate Dominica to God not celebrate the event. Dominica needs prayers and God's guidance. Let's not get caught up in ceremonial affairs but get to the power changing action of prayer. Pray works!
